(5 points per disease) Total extra credit points per assignment 15 points

NOTE: Must be original work, use the current format. You may not cut and paste directly from the Internet. No credit will be given, if student does not include three diseases in assignment.

The Body Works™

Create a fact sheet for three (3) diseases or medical condition. The heading for the paper will be the common name of the disease followed by its medical name, if there is one; for example, the medical term for high blood pressure is hypertension. Use the Internet as a resource, provide information for each of the following subtopics:

Definition and Causes - Give a clear, concise description of the disease and the cause, if known.
Symptoms - Give the symptoms, starting from the early stages through the advanced stages.
Prevention - Discuss the measures recommended to prevent or reduce the severity of the disease. If given, list foods that are beneficial and foods that should be avoided. If physical activity is recommended, discuss why it's beneficial for preventing this disease.
Treatment - List current treatments for the disease, from medications to surgery and other possibilities.
Resources - List web sites you used to conduct research into the disease (minimum 2).

Include a brief statement as to the specific reason you chose these diseases.

7th grade Drug project due Tuesday 5-12-09. (two weeks time frame)

Test all classes Thursday 5-7-09

All students were given a test study sheet to complete and turn in on day of test.

Current Event Due Tuesday 5/5/09

All grades will complete research on a Current Event at home and present during class period. (Current events date can not be older than January 28, 2009)

Topics students may choose for Current Event research.
6th grade: Friendship, Conflict, Bullying and Sexual Harassment
7th grade: Internet Safety, Nutrition, Eating Disorder
8th grade: Suicide, Gangs, Rape and Sexual Harassment

All classes notebook and folder check scheduled for the week of May 4th through 8th.
